PacketBrief carries a small number of affiliate links. This page explains exactly how they work, because you deserve to know how a site that recommends products pays its bills. It was last reviewed in September 2026.

How affiliate links work here

If you click certain outbound links to VPN providers and then sign up, PacketBrief may earn a commission at no extra cost to you. Those links are marked in context, and they route through a redirect so we can measure clicks. Every affiliate link on the site carries a 'sponsored nofollow' attribute, as search engines ask.

Which providers

The affiliate links here point to business-oriented VPN services — principally NordLayer and Proton for Business. Business VPN affiliate programs are thinner and pay differently from consumer ones, which is part of why we do not build the site around them.

The rule that keeps us honest

A commercial relationship never changes a technical recommendation. That is not a slogan: several of the options we recommend most often — self-hosted WireGuard, Tailscale and Mullvad among them — pay us nothing, and we recommend them anyway because they are frequently the right answer. If an affiliate product is the wrong tool for your situation, we will say so.
